The mitochondrial uniporter complex is composed of the Mcu pore, the regulatory Micu1 and Micu2 integral membrane proteins and the small Smdt1 protein, also known as Emre, with a single transmembrane domain that is required for channel activity and for the interaction of Mcu with its regulatory subunits. The complex also contains the Mcu paralog Ccdc109b, known as Mcub, which acts as an inhibitory subunit. The genes are listed with aliases in parentheses, full names and links to gene report pages:
Mcu – mitochondrial calcium uniporter
Micu1 (Calc, Cbara1) – mitochondrial calcium uptake 1
Micu2 (Efha1, Smhs2) – mitochondrial calcium uptake 2
Smdt1 (EMRE) – single-pass membrane protein with aspartate-rich tail 1
Ccdc109b (MCUb, coiled-coil domain containing 109B) – mitochondrial calcium uniporter dominant negative beta subunit
