The glycine cleavage system (GCS) catalyzes the THF-, PLP- and NAD-dependent oxidation of glycine. The GCS is a multienzyme complex composed of four subunits of which three are unique and one is shared. Gldc or P-protein, Amt or T-protein and Gcsh or H-protein are the unique subunits; Dld or L-protein is the shared one. For more information, check PMIDs 18941301 and 20645850. The genes are listed with aliases in parentheses, full names and links to gene report pages:
Gldc (P-protein, GCE, NKH) – glycine dehydrogenase
Amt (decarboxylating)T-protein) – aminomethyltransferase
Dld (L-protein, LAD, DLDH) – dihydrolipoamide dehydrogenase
Gcsh (H-protein) – glycine cleavage system protein H
