Strain: LAA/FDSC

Symbol: LAA/FDSC
Strain: LAA
Substrain: FDSC
Full Name: Hatano Low Avoidance
RGD ID: 1300433
Citation ID: RRID:RGD_1300433
Ontology ID: RS:0000424
Also Known As: MDC-01-75; NBRP Rat No: 0243
Type: inbred
Available Source: National BioResource Project for the Rat in Japan
Origination: Hatano Reserch Institute, Food and Drug Safety Center, Hadano, Kanagawa, Japan
Description: In 1985 two lines of Sprague-Dawley were selectively bred for their active shuttle-box avoidance task which is a device used for evaluating the effects of chemicals in pharmacological and toxicological studies and testing learning behavior of animals. These animals have a lower rate of avoidance response and showed little interindividual variation.
Inbred Generations: F20+
Last Known Status: Cryopreserved Embryo; Cryopreserved Sperm

Note Type Note Reference
strain_characteristics Have a lower amount of milk ejection as compared to HAA but no difference was noticed after oxytocin treatment. 1300229
strain_characteristics Milk secretion is lesser than HAA rats and smaller than the SD rats. 1300228
strain_other Prolactin secretory activity is higher as compared to HAA. 1300230
strain_phys_biochem The peak level of prolactin surge and the plasma concentration of progesterone are higher than the HAA rats. 1300227
strain_phys_biochem These have heavier pituitary glands and ovaries as compared to the HAA rats, whereas the uterine weights and adrenal gland weights are lower than the HAA rats. 1300227
strain_reproduction Shed a smaller number of oocytes at first ovulation as compared to the HAA rats. 1300228
strain_reproduction Fostering of females accelerated their puberty. 1300228
strain_reproduction LAA rats show a regular 5-day estrous cycle. The level of preovulatory luteinizing hormone (LH) surge level is significantly lower than the HAA rats on the day of proestrus. 1300227
