strain_other When bred to rats carrying a tTA transgene, the LacZ gene will be activated and expressed in those cells expressing the tTA transgene. 2292495
strain_other LacZ can be used as a reporter gene under the control of TRE. The E.coli LacZ gene encodes beta-galactosidase which catalyzes the cleavage of lactose to form gatactose and glucose. When beta-galactosidase is incubated with its substrate X-gal, resulting in an insoluble blue dye, gene expression within a tissue can be determined. 2292495
