strain_anatomy No abnormalilties have been observed in the histopathological studies. 628480
strain_characteristics Even at 2 months of age these exhibit abnormal behavior like sudden arrest of motion, neck spasms, jumping backwards, lifting of the forelimbs and crying for a few seconds. At a later age the seizures occurred in the following order: neck and fore limb clonus, wild jumping/running, opisthotonic posture, followed by tonic convulsion, clonic convulsion and then postictal flaccid state of the whole body. 628480
strain_characteristics GTC seizures originate in the forebrain; evoked by activation of cortical- and/or limbic-seizure circuits 2313241
strain_life_disease After F9 generation 94%-98% animals exhibited spontaneous tonic-clonic convulsions. These began with neck and forelimb clonus, wild jumping/running and opisthotonic postures. Most seizures were observed between 2-4 months of age. Pregnant and suckling female adult rats had a lower rate of seizures. 628480
strain_phys_biochem During a general seizure the cerebullum is electrically and metabolically active. The cerebellum of these animals maybe in an excited state to dampen seizure, it has a high concentration of glycine and a lower concentration of taurine than the F344 rats. 628480
strain_phys_biochem piriform cortex, perirhinal-entorhinal cortex, insular cortex and other cortices have increased Fos expression 2313241
strain_reproduction This strain has a good breeding performance. The copulation index, fertility index and the gestation index were above 80%. 628480
