strain_characteristics WKY/Kiha (HA-WKY) rats exhibit about 4-fold higher serum adiponectin concentration at 6 weeks of age compared with that of WKY/Izm. When fed high-fat diets, WKY/Kiha rats show hyperinsulinemia and severe hypercholesterolemia. The lack of adiponectin binding to skeletal muscle seems to cause these phenotypes of WKY/Kiha. 1302502
