Description: In 1980, a spontaneous tremor mutant rat was found in the colony of Kyo:Wistar (Yamada, 1985). This disorder was found to be caused by an autosomal recessive gene and was designated tremor (tm). Deletion of Aspa gene was identified in the animal with no aspartoacylase activity in the brain and measurable level of activity in the kidney. TRM was established as a segregating inbred strain. In F18 progeny, a rat which did not have tm mutation was separated and established as a control strain of WTC (NBRP No.0020). (Dec 8, 2010)

RGD Curation Notes
Note Type Note Reference
strain_other The tremor rat has a large deletion (200kb) spanning the aspartoacylase (ASPA) coding region. The deleted resion includes several other genes such as Trpv3, which is known to be related with abnormal hair. 628404
