The polyamines are cations that interact with DNA, RNA, proteins and other molecules to fulfill important roles in cell growth, proliferation and survival. They can be derived from food intake or from cellular and intestinal flora mediated biosynthesis. Mammals only synthesize putrescine, spermidine and spermine.
