A buffered, aqueous solution usually containing the cations sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium, and anions chloride, sulfate, bicarbonate and phosphate and often including glucose as an energy source which is injected or pumped into, or poured through, an organ or tissue, usually via a blood vessel.
