Term: auditory mechanotransduction pathway
Accession: PW:0001503

Definition: The auditory mechanotransduction pathway converts mechanical stimuli into electrical signaling that are processed by the brain and account for the perception of sound, gravity and movement. The inner ear contains the cochlea and the vestibule responsible for sound and movement mechanotransduction, respectively. The auditory mechanotransduction primarily depicts the sound generated responses by the hair cells in the organ of Corti.
