Professional Opportunities with RGD
The Bioinformatics Program, HMGC, Medical College of Wisconsin is seeking candidates to work on the rapidly expanding Rat Genome Database (RGD). The RGD project is charged with the organization, collection and distribution of all rat genetic and genomic information. The following positions are available:
- Scientific Curators
The Rat Genome Database (RGD) has positions open for qualified biologists who will be responsible for data acquisition and analysis. Curators will identify relevant sources of information and extract genetic, disease, and physiological data from the literature as well as research centers around the world. They will evaluate the data for annotation of genes, strains, and QTLs, and r esolve conflicts in the data through sequence analysis, data mining and personal contact with researchers involved in the original work. They will also work with a team of software engineers on the development of new or existing data analysis tools, database design, and web interfaces.
Applicants should have research experience in molecular biology or genetics and be versed in genomics, physiology, cellular and/or developmental biology. Familiarity with gene ontology is desirable. Excellent oral and written English skills are essential. A successful candidate will display independence in problem solving and attention to detail and have strong interpersonal and communication skills in a group setting with individuals of diverse scientific expertise.
A Ph.D. in life sciences is preferred; an M.S. with appropriate experience will be considered.
